Lionel Bedard's Turnings
I am a local artist, born and raised in Ottawa. I have always been interested in wood. Over ten years ago I purchased my first lathe and started woodturning. Eventually I progressed to a 24 inch swing lathe which allows me to produce larger pieces.
Searching for great varieties of wood, domestic and exotic to turn functional as well as artistic pieces has become a passion. I look for different shapes and forms to incorporate in my vases, bowls, platters and non functional pieces. My pieces have won various prizes including First, Best in Show and People’s Choice at the Ottawa Wood Show competitions. In 2007 I was the recipient of the Brian Larkin Memorial trophy for pure form woodturning. I have participated in Art in the Park, Art in the City and the Westport Studio Tour over the years. My work has been sold through Snapdragon, the Ottawa Art Gallery and presented to dignitaries by Foreign Affairs Canada.
I am presently Vice President of the Bytown Woodturners, a newly formed club for woodturners in the Ottawa area. Previously I served on the executive of the Valley Woodturners. For many years I have been a member of the American Association of Woodturners.
